Frequently asked questions

What is a CS2 gen code and how do I use it?
A gen code is a chat command such as "!gen 7 282 0.15 661" (weapon defindex, paint index, float, pattern seed) that makes a community server spawn that exact skin for you to look at. To use one: pick the skin on this page, set float, seed, stickers and charm, copy the command, then paste it into chat on a private or community CS2 server that runs a gen plugin. For a preview without a server, open the generated steam:// inspect link instead. Gen codes are cosmetic only — they never add the skin to your inventory.
What is a CS2 inspect link?
An inspect link is a steam:// URL that opens CS2 in inspect mode and previews a specific weapon variant — including its float, pattern seed, and stickers — without needing the item in your actual inventory.
What does the !gen command do?
!gen is a community-server chat command that spawns a weapon with the exact defindex, paint kit, float, and pattern you specify. It only works on private CS2 servers that have the gen plugin installed; it has no effect in matchmaking or your real inventory.
Why are there several gen code formats (!gen, !g, !gengl)?
Different server plugins parse the command differently. The classic format is "!gen <defindex> <paintindex> <float> <seed>", while other plugins expect seed before float as "!g <defindex> <paintindex> <seed> <float>". The cs2-inspect-gen plugin also accepts sticker pairs appended as "<stickerId> <stickerWear>" and uses a separate !gengl command for gloves. If a code doesn’t work on your server, switch the format tab and try the other syntax.
Can I add a charm (keychain) to the preview?
Yes — pick any charm and an optional charm pattern (0–100000). The charm is written into the inspect link payload, so the in-game preview shows it hanging from the weapon. Charms only attach to weapons, not knives or gloves.
Is generating an inspect link safe?
Yes. Inspect links are read-only previews — they cannot transfer items, trade, or affect your account. The link encodes the visual properties only.
Why does the float slider clamp to a range?
Each CS2 skin has a fixed minimum and maximum float defined by Valve (e.g. AK-47 | Redline is 0.10–0.70). Floats outside that range are invalid for that skin and the inspect server would reject them, so the picker clamps the slider to the skin's allowed range.
Can I add stickers to the inspect link?
Yes — you can add up to 5 stickers, one per slot, each with its own scratch wear (0 = pristine, 1 = fully scraped). The picker writes them into the protobuf payload so the inspect preview shows the exact loadout you built.
Can I buy the skin with the float I dialed in?
The "Buy this float" panel shows live marketplace prices for the wear bracket your float falls into, and each link filters listings from your chosen float up to the end of that wear bracket — for example a 0.09 float links to Minimal Wear listings between 0.09 and 0.15.
Will Steam open the link in CS2?
When you click an inspect link, Steam launches CS2 (or focuses it if already running) and opens the in-game inspect overlay. This requires CS2 installed and Steam logged in.
Can I share the generated inspect link with others?
Yes. The inspect link is stateless — anyone with the URL and CS2 installed will see the same preview. There are no account links, no expiry, and no item ownership involved.
